With trophy is Gales and Ian Flannigan of Guide Dogs for the Blind winning team Captain Extract from press release for inc Scottish Disability Golf Partnership The Dukes Golf Course hosted disabled golfers from across Scotland. Someforty golfers, from numerous areas of Scotland, took on the challenges at the Dukes Golf Course St Andrews on Tuesday 10 March. Players attending participated in the inaugural Scottish Disability Golf Challenge Cup, which was generated by the SDGP for related charities and other voluntary groups to take part in a new fun golf competition. Players were divided into four teams representing the Guide Dogs for the Blind, Sense Scotland, VONEF Cupar and the SDGP. As well as the challenging course and the traditional long drive and nearest the pin competitions, players were all blindfolded for a tee shot each during their round. Jim Gales, the Event Organiser said, "We certainly struck lucky with the weather and we had a great turn out for our first event of the year. This was also the SDGP's first 2009 competition for our Order of Merit Tables where all golfers, for both 18 and 9 hole competitions competed for the title of Scottish Merit Champion. We must thank the staff at the Dukes Golf Course and at VONEF Cupar for their assistance in the organisation of this event. Since its official launch in 2006 the Scottish Disability Golf Partnership has provided golf and tuition to hundreds of people with various disabilities and health issues, including those with sensory loss, I.e. the blind, vision impaired and the deaf, as well as amputees and those with learning or mobility difficulties Results from the Dukes event: 1st SDGP Steve Bramwell 30 pts 2nd SDGP Bob Drysdale 28 1st SDGP guest/coach D Webster 33 2nd SDGP guest/coach A Bruce 32 Overall team winners were the Guide Dogs team with 220pts and second were VONEF Cupar with 190. Longest Drive was won by D Webster and the Nearest the Pin was R Morrison. |
